The Art of Jun Fan Trapping

When we think of Bruce Lee, we think of the movies, the theatrics, jumping, spinning, kicking,

and yelling.  But there is also a functional side to jeet kune do.

What most people don't know is that Bruce Lee was a World Class Streetfighter at 135 lbs.

What he discovered was that in a street fight, regardless of what art you study, taekwondo,

kickboxing, boxing, karate, wrestling, or ju- jitsu there exists a fundamental truth.

There are only four ranges you can fight in.  They are Kicking, Punching, Trapping, and

Grappling range.

Bruce Lee realized (in the 60's) that most martial arts trained and fought in maybe one or

two ranges of combat.  They either specialized in kicking and punching or grappling ranges.

TKD and Karate guys can kick, Boxers box, MMA fighters take guys to the ground and pound.

But nobody knows how to fight in the most lethal range.  Trapping.

When we talk about trapping, we're generally talking about the momentary immobilisation of a

limb in order to score with a hit.

Trapping is the range where your most intense tools come into action and are designed to put

people out of commision very quickly.
